Please I neade help setting a Netgear DGN2000...

Hallo alles,
I'm a Italian woman that i live in Austria.In the last two year i was useing a roter by telekomaustria a thomson 585 v7 but i dont like it so i'm planing to take my router that i have in Italy (a Netgear dgn2000) and to use that hear in Austria.I have asked in Netgear forum and they told me taht i just neade to falsh firmware deutch and the router will be ready to use in Austria but...i neade a help from somebody that is useing the same router with the configuration of my adsl flat connection.
For the Thomson i have a cd rom autoconguraton and user e apssowrd that i got from TeleomAustria but now that i will change the router with the Netgear how i must set the configuration?The cd is for automatic setup in Italy and usualy is hard ti use it (i have allaways used the manual settings in Italy but....in Asutria how i must configure it?Anybody cn help me?

It is not nessecary to upgrade your firmware. You need to store the right settings in the ADSL Webinterface. I have sent you the right parameters.

Hi Helen,

I am not using a DGN2000 personally, but in principle it should work. But the setup requires a good preparation.

1) Which provider are you using currently (A1 = Telekom Austria)?
2) What is your type of DSL connection (ADSL or VDSL)?
2) Do you know your username and password?
3) Read out the current settings of your Thomson TG 585v7. By the way, this router can be set to an english user interface (upper right corner on the start-up page)
- Thomson Gateway --> Configuration --> Details
- Broadband connection --> More information
Make screenshots of both pages. You need the type of DSL connection (G.xxx.x annex x) and the VPI/VCI setting.
4) If it is an Italian DGN2000, then you have to change the firmware. Download the Germany/Austria version from the Netgear homepage (http://support.netgear.com/product/DGN2000). The firmware flash procedure is described in the reference manual. Additionally, download the reference manual, which tells you about setting up the DSL connection.
5) Log in to the DGN2000 from a computer not connected to you current LAN. Flash the new firmware and setup your DSL connection (Encapsulation PPPoA or PPPoE depending on type of DSL, VPI/VCI according to your current settings, username and password)
6) Switch of the DGN2000, connect the DSL line (which is currently connected to the TG 585) to the DSL port of the DGN2000, turn it on, and then it should work with basic settings.
7) Adjust the advanced settings according to your needs as descibed in the reference manual.

If anything goes wrong, you still have the TG 585 as a backup.

user as given by A1 (a number)
Password as given by A1
IP Adress: dynamically
DNS Adress: automatically
NAT: Enable
ADSL Settings:
Multiplexing method: VC-based
VPI 8
VCI 48

Anything else should be the same as usual....

thank's now i'n in Italay and i will bring with me Netgear next 27 when i will be abck in Auitria and i will give a try.I will try foirst withou falshing router then flasjhing the router with German firmware

Ok i'ma back do u think i can keep the firmware that i have so just neade to reset the router and then enter settings u wrote or do u think i neade to flash it with german firware?

In my opinion you do not need to flash a new(Austrian) firmware because the Italian ADSL is simalar to the Austrian one. Of course you can do it if you want. If it does not work with the settings above you should do it. I do not know the diference between the setted firware and the Austrian/German one. In some cases german settings are not compatible with austrian settings so I do not understand why it is recomended.

Thank's!!Now my brother is downloading so he dont want that disconnect Thomson i have sett the dgn2000 after a reset how u wrote later i will plug it in the phone line.If I remembar the user name are the 10 numbers not the aon(then numbers) and the poassword are the 9 letters,i think is taht because a few times the router went on auto-reset and with the cd i have reinstalled everything (now i have a restore file is more easy and quick).
