Hallo Leute,
Habe einen Compaq Proliant 2500 (E24) und kann kein Linux installieren. Entweder kommt die Meldung "zu wenig RAM" was ich mir nicht vorstellen kann (512MB) oder Kernel Panic. Weis irgendwer eine Lösung für mich??????? Der Server sollte eigentlich spätestens Anfang Jänner als Webserver online gehen. Danke für die Infos in vorraus.

naja zumindest letztes jahrhundert
... egal ..
a) schon mal probiert beim lilo prompt
linux mem=512M
einzugeben, und damit dann zu installieren? damit hats bei unsere compaq's immer
geklappt ...
(nach der install natuerlich dann im lilo.conf mit append="mem=512M"
verewigen und "lilo" ausfuerhren)
b) schon das aktuellste bios einspielen probiert? koennte auch helfen ..
aber a) sollte eigentlich in deinem fall reichen ...

mem=512M schon Probiert ----> kommt Kernel Panic
Punkto Bios bei System und Array Controller ist das Neueste drauf.
Mit diesen Linux Versionen Probiert.
Mit Suse 7.0 + 8.1, RedHat 7.0+7.1+7.3+8.0, OpenLinuxServer3.11, Mandrake 8.1+9.0, Slackware 8.1 und Debian 3.0.
Punkto Bios bei System und Array Controller ist das Neueste drauf.

Blöde Frage aber was ist FreeBSD?? Das kenn ich nicht. Wo bekommt man das?

Das ist glaub ich alles was du zum installieren brauchst.

Abhilfe:
Two other methods exist for specifying the amount of memory available:
mem=320M@16M
or
mem=exactmap mem=0x9f000@0 mem=0x13f00000@0x100000
where 0x13f00000 = 319M.
To calculate an appropriate value for your amount of memory, take your amount of memory in megabytes, subtract 1 megabyte, multiply by 1024, then by 1024 again, then convert to hex. The following formula (where XM is your total memory specified in MB) shows this calculation:
(XM - 1M)*1024*1024, then convert the value to hex.
As an added feature, the Compaq System Partition, created during a SmartStart installation, will reserve an area of the boot disk to store configuration utilities simplifying server configuration and server diagnostics. The System Configuration Utility installs to this partition providing system configuration and server diagnostic tools. Although not required, Compaq recommends creating and maintaining this partition making future system configuration sessions easy. Having the Compaq System Partition in place on systems that support it can save about an hours worth of time if it is necessary to use those utilities.
